A Woman’s Worth.

Wutchu talking ’bout shawty, wutchu know ’bout a woman’s worth?

Some of you will remember this line from off Alicia Key’s, ‘ A woman’s worth video’  where that little guy was acting all grown. (Boys will always be boys).

Amazing how some songs will never fade, I guess they don’t when they speak the truth.

Thing is, I wonder if people ever catch the lyrics off songs after they are done ‘feeling the beat’ and swaying their hips and bums to it? Beats me some times.

I have to admit that it was this song that got me thinking and gave the inspiration for this read. Nothing lengthy or particularly exciting but something I personally think I have to say.

Seriously though, what do you know about a woman’s worth?

Whanat do you know about trying to be there for people and they forgetting that you are also human with breaking points of your own?

About people taking your kindness for granted, your quiet periods of sober reflection for stupidity and your playful antics for childishness?

What do you know about genuinely caring and having your affection dumped in the trash?

About being the silent listener?

About not being asked for your opinion?

What do you know about making head way in what is more or less known as a man’s world?  Having to deal with male chauvinistic pigs as you try to climb up the corporate ladder or any other type of ladder for that matter?

About being viewed as a sex toy?

What do you know about being the rallying point, the bonding glue and the pillar of support for the people you truly care about?

What do you know about only being seen and never heard? About being linked to the kitchen and bedroom and almost never the board room? (Thank God, that era is being phased out, whew!)

About always having to look picture pretty and it always being linked to some one or thing?

About having to live under a set of rules on how to act, talk, walk and look in order to be socially ‘accepted.’

About how just about anything could leave you branded and even scarred for life?

What do you know about being a friend, a best friend, a sister, wife, mother to more people than you will ever know? Talk about multi-tasking at it’s peak!

A woman’s worth is far more than diamonds  and pearls even though she deserves them. It is not however, her true value.

Yes, it is a nice thing to appreciate women with nice stuff and great gifts but then again, it should always be to appreciate, complement and encourage her but NEVER to buy her.

I might not know everything in the books about this subject either but I have seen enough to know that girls deserve a lot more respect than they get.

It sucks to see some random guy born of  a woman raise his hand to hit a woman. What’s more? The girl won’t leave him.  Or even worse? When a guy publicly  disrespects and humiliates a lady. Not cool….so not cool. These things speak volumes.

You never know what you have got until you loose it. Why wait until it is gone?

I Am Here!

I couldn’t exactly help the outburst in my title. This post comes as a result of the numerous things that have happened in one short weekend! Amazing how a few hours could become an epoch in my life…and the blog(s) as well. True, I said I was taking a break from the blogosphere a while until summer but then permit me to say, ‘I changed my mind.’
As for the ‘things’ I referred to, we don’t always have to say what we saw or what we heard, do we? Suffice it to say, it will come out in the end as truth always prevails. I did miss the blogging community though and I have been fighting the itch to write all along. It’s a wonder I ignored it so long. Sometimes we just need someone to pull that trigger for us whether or not we are self motivators.
I have been away for like forever and came back to discover that what I initially thought I was doing on the low-key, being invisible in my little’ koro’ has actually made me SEEN. Apparently, there is no such thing as ‘being invisible.’I kinda hate the fact but then okay, what the hell? If doing good and minding my business is a crime, I pledge as accused. GUILTY!
Without sounding immodest, (or maybe so) I love to think of myself as an all rounder in more ways than one, and before you drop that Jack of all trade’s line on me, I’d tell you that there are areas where I am a force to reckon with. You can’t blame me for being versatile, I am a strong, young black woman and to multi-purpose is in-built (apparently not in everyone though).
I might not do things the conventional way hence my unpredictability. So, I’m thinking this blog should make you see everyday things in another light from another perspective and another angle.
Seriously it is not to my intention to bore you with the FAQ’s questions about my life but then after deep retrospective and discovering myself and all that, I am back on and back for good.
I am here and you can be sure as hell that I ain’t going nowhere!
Peace out!

2 Much Play???

Today I missed class, not cause I’m not a serious student (which I am aspiring for) or any of that stuff…I just didn’t go cause I felt unprepared. I wonder if that sounds silly by itself but first hear me out before you pass any judgement. The thing is that there was this test (so you see the basis for my reservations) and I haven’t even covered a quarter of the syllabus and there was no way on Earth I was going to stroll into class with an empty coconut for a head. For other courses, maybe but chemistry? Never!

I stayed in the hostel to at least to read up some of the stuff I missed out on and I honestly don’t know how far I went with that either! What with the tons and tons of distractions, I couldn’t even have my head screwed on properly. You know how it is, I take it we all have been there some time…and now with the facebooking and the tweeting, let us not forget the skyping paroles, it’s sort of hard to just leave your computer on your study page.

I have to say it got me thinking. You know, how as a christian I am distracted on all sides. When I know for a fact that most of the things I might personally enjoy might cost me Heaven. So I feel horrible, blame myself, repent and then do it all over again!! It is so crazy, I have to be the biggest moron n Earth! I surprise myself, I’m actually coming to terms with that and it dawns on me more when I realise I have yet another chemistry class tomorrow!

So as I think about it now, I’m wondering how I am going to ace that test tomorrow and also how I am going to impress God on the day of judgement. For some reason, I am quite confident I am not alone on this one. There are countless girls I know who have found themselves in this same dilemma. I need help and I need it asap but don’t we all??

May God help me.

Let’s Pray for ASUU…

What is it with this people exactly??? So they have gone on strike again…who else hasn’t gotten the memo? Honestly, I don’t know what to say, I’m tired of complaining so I say we pray. After all, all our complaining hasn’t changed anything.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has ordered its members to embark on strike following the Federal Government’s refusal to implement the agreement it signed with the union in 2009. The strike commenced midnight on Sunday.

The government had promised to honour the agreement reached two years ago on the adequate funding of the universities and other sundry issues after a meeting with ASUU in September.

A Memorandum of Understanding by both parties was signed at the meeting with the Ministers of Education and Labour and Productivity in attendance.

ASUU President, Prof.Ukachukwu Awuzie, said in Port Harcourt on Sunday, that the government had deliberately refused to honour the agreement.

Awuzie regretted that rather than executing the content of the accord, the government sacked the Implementation Monitoring Committee that served as the forum for a dialogue with ASUU on the dispute.

He wondered why the government did not make any move to implement the core components of the agreement, even when the union granted its (government) request for a two-month grace to begin the implementation process.

Awuzie said, “NEC, having noted that the Federal Government neglected, failed and refused to implement the core components of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement after more than two years of its signing, having squandered the two months it requested without  achieving any progress in the implementation of agreement, having sacked the Implementation Monitoring Committee that serves as the forum for a dialogue with ASUU on this dispute, is convinced that government is terribly insincere and is manifestly unwilling to genuinely implement the agreement it freely entered into with ASUU.

“The government has abandoned the main tenets of industrial democracy-that all agreements freely entered must be honoured. NEC of ASUU, therefore, resolved painfully, to direct all members of ASUU in all branches nationwide to proceed on a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike beginning from the midnight of Sunday, 4th December 2011.”

So I guess some of us are going to be home a while…..I suggest we just take the time off to pray. 🙂

Plus for the Day

The Federal Government of Nigeria on Monday took serious steps to stem rape and other forms of violence against women by inaugurating a toll-free helpline.

The helpline is 080072732255.
It was inaugurated in Abuja by the Minister of Youth Development, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
The minister also named popular musician, Naeto C, and the 2010 winner of Big Brother Africa, Kevin Pam, as ambassadors and spokespersons for the Nigerian Youth and the Rape Challenge.
The ministry will also take its campaign against rape to the airwaves with various slogans.
This is definitely a step in the right direction and a plus for the Ministry of Youth Development.I just pray all the sick perverts find God before it’s too late.
